Oleo en lino

While returning repeatedly to the painting, I experienced a growing sense of recognition within the work. Piel de Origen became one of the first moments in which I felt I could see myself through painting, understanding the medium not only as image-making, but as a space capable of revealing parts of myself.
Painted in Hualien, Taiwan, the painting speaks of the back-and-forth of becoming and unbecoming; latent forms begin to surface before becoming fully recognizable to then disolve once again. I have excavated parts of myself finding out that forms took their own expression in fragments of skin, organs, fossils, and living matter in transformation.
